Introduction to grant-writing for artists

First session October 8, 2019

This hands-on workshop is aimed at artists from all disciplines who are unfamiliar with the grants system and are looking to prepare their first- or second-ever grant application.

Organized as a series of 8 gatherings held over winter 2019 and spring 2020, this workshop will provide participants with a solid foundation in the basic elements of grant-writing in the arts. By the end of the workshop participants should have increased confidence in their own grant-writing skills as well as a better understanding of the current arts funding ecosystem in Quebec.

The MAI’s workshops are tailored to artists seeking to engage with the professional arts milieu. Workshops are open to everyone, however priority is given to Indigenous, Black and racialized artists, as well as Deaf artists, artists with disabilities and artists from the LGBTQQIP2SAA community.

call for participants / sacrifice : the performance

In collaboration with battery opera performance, MAI is looking for 12 participants to take part in a 1 hour session with the artists David McIntosh and Arash & Aryo Khakpour in questioning what exactly is a Sacrifice. During this research/performance they will ask their guests a series of questions, and then try to perform a sacrifice for the participants. You do not have to perform or participate other than being present and answering a few questions.

Sacrifice, created by David McIntosh, Aryo Khakpour, and Arash Khakpour, is a performance for one audience member, a “prescription” following an informal conversation and a short interview. The work is derived…www.batteryopera.com

Arash and Aryo Khakpour

The Khakpour brothers have been partnering in creating performances for the past 5 years under the company name of The Biting School. In the space between the grotesque and the beautiful, between humour and ethics, they explore the dynamics of power, the implications of ideologies, and the recurrence of mythologies.
