calls for submissions

MAI welcomes artistic approaches that are hybrid, rigorous and relevant in the intercultural context. In particular, we welcome proposals from artists who are creating from conditions of marginality (in particular, sex, race, class, ability, sexual orientation, religion, age, language, and other marks of identity, apparent or not).
The Alliance program is a unique support structure dedicated to artists working in and from positions of marginality. Participating artists work with the backing of MAI staff and the program coordinator and receive special allocations that help cover a wide range of creative and professional development needs. Alliance is geared to artists in the early stages of their careers, as well as older artists (55 and older) and those otherwise looking to find their footing in the city’s artistic milieu.
Studio residencies consist of a maximum of 40 hours of studio time in one of the MAI’s two rehearsal studios. Hours must be used within a 3-month period.
