Call for submissions, Visual and Media Arts

Among professional artists presented by MAI are Alfredo Abeijon, Akane Asaoka, Shelly Bahl, Rand Berthaudin, Marie-Lynda Bilodeau, Diane Borsato, Michael Chambers, Lucie Chan, Sonya Clark, Daniel Dion et Su Shnee, Freda Guttman, Joanne Hui, Robert Morin, Gyu Oh, Edward Pien, Adrian Piper, Cesar Saez, Karen Tam.

The deadline for submitting a project: October 1st 2010 (2011-2012 season)

MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) invites professionals in contemporary arts to submit their creation projects before October 1. Artists and independent curators in visual arts, media art and related fields (including cultural workers, researchers, art historians and theoreticians, art educators, and design and architecture professionals) as well as organizations, may submit a project for an individual or a group exhibition.

Artists that are selected may benefit from extended setup periods in the gallery, creation and technical residencies. MAI also offers audience development activities. The MAI accepts projects from local, national or international artists. We offer technical, promotional and administrative support as well as a guaranteed fee.

Projects must be intercultural.

Preference is given to original creations that are designed for MAI’s space and have not been presented in Montreal before. Please note that the size of the gallery is 39’ x 65' or 13.87m x 23.13m, therefore projects making ample use of the gallery, such as installations, video screenings, etc. are our first choice. The MAI is specifically interested in proposals that include visitor participation as a key component, either by creating an interaction with the viewers, involving them in the creation process, or by engaging with local communities.

MAI presents artists of different origins and milieus who question or challenge their cultural backgrounds while also reflecting them, and whose works may be iconoclastic or that engage in open dialogue with tradition.
