Print version: Call for proposals in visual arts (format PDF) [248Ko]

The MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels) MAI (Montréal, arts interculturels)invites professionals in contemporary art to submit their projects for our 2012-2013 season before the listed deadline. Artists, organizations and independent curators in visual arts, media art and related fields (including but not limited to: cultural workers, researchers, art educators, art historians and theoreticians, design and architecture professionals) may submit a project for an individual or a group exhibition.

Artists that are selected may benefit from extended setup periods in the gallery as well as creative and technical residencies. The MAI also offers public development programs such as conferences any other visual-art related activity. The MAI accepts projects from local, national and international artists, depending on our available resources. We offer technical, promotional and administrative support as well as a guaranteed fee.

Projects must be intercultural.

Preference is given to original creations that are designed for MAI’s space and that have not been presented in Montreal before. Please note that the size of the gallery is 39’ x 65' or 13.87m x 23.13m, therefore projects making ample use of the gallery (such as installations, video screenings, etc.) are our first choice. The MAI is specifically interested in proposals that include visitor participation as a key component either by creating an interaction with the viewer, involving them in the creation process, or by engaging with local communities.

MAI presents artists of different origins and milieus who question or challenge their cultural background while also exposing them, whose work may be iconoclastic or engaging in an open dialogue with tradition. Among professional artists that have been presented at the MAI are: Edward Pien, Karen Tam, Michael Fernandes, Reena Katz, Killy, Khadija Baker, Shié Kasai, José Luis Torres, Jason Baerg, Lori Blondeau, Martin Loft, Cathy Mattes, Nadia Myre, Ariel Lightningchild Smith, Sammy Baloji, Diyan Achjadi, Brendan Tang, Brendan Fernandes, Anna Biro, Howie Tsui, Jérôme Havre, Osvaldo Ramirez Castillo and Marigold Santos.
