MENTORSHIP PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The MAI’s mentorship program offers services for artists and non-profit organisations in the fields of performing, multidisciplinary or visual arts from Montreal’s culturally diverse communities. Recognized for its ability to make strong ties between artists, partners, and communities, the MAI has, since 2005, already provided assistance to over one hundred artists.
The MAI offers a variety of services that are adapted to benefit each artist and their individual projects. With the intent to foster professional development, the mentorship program facilitates exchange and participation between artists and their collaborators from within the artistic community. It also helps to promote and make the artists’ work accessible to the public in Montréal. The MAI is committed to the advancement of contemporary intercultural artistic practices and strives to facilitate the professional development of culturally diverse artists through guidance and mentorship.
This project is financially supported by the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications du Québec and the Ville de Montréal as part of l'Entente sur le développement culturel de Montréal 2008-2012.
TYPES OF MENTORSHIP
Artists may request one of two types of mentorship:
- short-term (for immediate or specific needs)
- or long-term (over a one year period).
Short-term mentorship requests may be submitted as of August 1 and are subject to available funds and resources. These requests are intended for immediate and specific needs, and will be evaluated by an internal committee.
The following are some examples of services considered for short-term mentorship:
• extended use of rehearsal studios
• loan of technical equipment
• use of the MAI’s database for electronic promotional purposes
• grant writing assistance/consultation
• web site design and integration
Applications must be received a minimum of three weeks before the activity or event.
Long-term mentorship proposals will undergo a full evaluation by the MAI’s Executive and artistic director, Production & projects director and the Mentorship program coordinator. A minimum of five artists will be selected per season (October through June), depending on funding.
Deadline for soumission: September 2nd 2011
Please note that selected artists will not automatically be presented as part of the MAI’s programming.
