L’Envers des îles blanches
Claudia Bernal (Montréal)
Sept 8 - 17, 8 p.m.
In *L’Envers des îles blanches*, artist Claudia Bernal transforms the gallery with a dream-like, performative installation drawn from three short stories by Nobel Prize for literature laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez. Here, the tales of Bitterness for Three Sleepwalkers, The Woman Who Came at Six O’Clock, and Eva is Inside Her Cat become material for an ambulatory immersion, filled with sounds, symbols and presences.
Claudia Bernal and Danae Serinet give body to Marquez’s magic realism and to his haunting words, creating an ebullient and riotous enclosure where the fantastical so redolent of Latin America is materialized through performance
Claudia Bernal is an interdisciplinary artist originally from Columbia whose work, straddling performance, theatre, visual arts, and literature, delivers a compelling and original examination of social and political forces along with contemporary issues of identity.
