Ironico Orkestra

December 9 and 10, 2011

December 9 and 10, 2011

Clarinettist Guillaume Bourque and accordionist Luzio Altobelli, known as the groovy, down-home duo Ironico Orkestra, come together with three other musicians to form an Ironico Okestra Grande for a never-before-seen performance. Electronica merges with improvised and composed music in this original fusion of traditional and contemporary styles. Using a range of samples – pop music, Italian folk songs, snippets of family conversations, and traditional music from the village of Mozzagrogna Chiet in the Abruzzo region – this concert is a living musical testimonial, born of sounds infused with memory.

Ironico Orkestra is an ever-evolving project, always in the spirit of creativity, unity, and discovery. Clarinettist Guillaume Bourque has graced the stage of many jazz and music festivals in Canada and all over the world. Multi-instrumentalist Luzio Altobelli is known for his collaborations with other artists, including La Fanfare Pourpour, Mara Tremblay, René Lussier, and Tomas Jensen et les Faux-monnayeurs. In 2007, Ironico Orkestra recorded their first opus, Passeggiata dei buddies (DAME label), music that moves seamlessly across genres, from jazz to classical to folk, while bringing to mind a playful and spontaneous conversation.

Luzio Altobelli / accordion
Guillaume Bourque / clarniet, bass clarinet
