The Burning Skies of Bogota: New Music for Piano and Electronics from Colombia

Daniel Áñez García (Montréal)

November 9 and 10, 2012

November 9 and 10, 2012

The Burning Skies of Bogotá, a concert of electro-acoustic music accompanied by a light installation, honours Colombia’s musical avant-garde. Works by Rodolfo Acosta, Daniel Leguizamon and Ana María Romano will be interpreted by the brilliant pianist Daniel Áñez García, well-known for his knowledge of the contemporary South American repertoire. In a nod to the blazing sunsets of the pianist’s home town, music and light interact in this unusual audio-visual experiment. For the performance of this new work, García collaborated with Adam Basanta, a media artist and classical and electroacoustic music composer.

A spearhead of little-known musical works, Daniel Áñez García is a member of La Machine, an ensemble devoted to creating and performing contemporary Colombian music. Winner ex aequo of the Grand Prix at the Third International Piano Competition in Costa Rica, in 2007 Daniel Áñez García recorded Colón electrónico 5 años (2002-2006), a commemorative work performed at the Teatro Colón in Bogotá. García is working towards his doctorate in contemporary piano music performance from the Université de Montréal.

Adam Basanta creates striking audiovisual installations. His work as an electro-acoustic composer has garnered several awards at foreign events, including the VII Electro-Acoustic Miniatures Contest (Spain, 2009). His compositions have been performed in a variety of concerts and festivals in North America, Europe and Asia.
