Transitioning: between line 02

Tania Ursomarzo (New York)

September 15 to October 20, 2012

September 15 to October 20, 2012

A weaver of urban interior space, Tania Ursomarzo expands the boundaries of the visible. Her spidery works redraw negative space and exploit zones of shadow and light. Fascinated by visual perception phenomena, this Toronto-born artist creates her installations in situ. Each installation is unique and invites visitors to look at their surroundings differently. Her ephemeral works, made out of nylon and cotton thread, follow the architectural contours of the gallery before being destroyed after the exhibition. In Transitioning: between line 02 the line, the governing idea for Ursomarzo, symbolises passing time. Observable by the eye, the line is omnipresent in human experience — the line of the horizon, geographical or topographical lines, etc.

Her video BEIJING 2007, chosen to represent Canada at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, was included in the travelling exhibition The World One Minutes, seen at venues including the Centro per l’arte contemporanea Luigi Pecci in Italy and the David and Alice van Buuren Museum in Belgium. Her work has also been presented in the United Kingdom, Finland, Belgium, the United States and Canada. Tania Ursomarzo’s work, located between art and architecture, includes installation, photography, video, performance and sculpture.
