Para Quedar / pour rester humain

Productions Rhizome // PROJET JUNTOS

April 6 and 7, 2012

Produced by Rhizome Productions (Quebec) and created in collaboration with Compañía DanAE-Danza y Arte Escénico (Colima, Mexico), this interdisciplinary performance merges poetry, dance, technological interfaces, video and sound art. Para Quedar / pour rester humain consists of two written works – two variations on the same theme: the human condition as it relates to its animalistic side. This multifaceted performance stems from artists of all stripes united by the vision of two poets, one of Mexican origin and one from Quebec: Cristobal Barreto Hérédia and Carl Larachité.

In his poetic manifesto, Hérédia articulates the necessity of leaving behind our humanity and returning to a primate state. Lacharité, on the other had, meditates on the living in a performance where life forms, ranging from the most simple to the most complex, unravel one into the next (cell, fern, community, civilization). Dance and movement create a space where words and gestures merge, intersect and feed into each other.

Ever since it was founded in 2000, Rhizome has been searching for ways to integrate literature as an art form into an interdisciplinary practice centred on theatre arts. Since 2003, Rhizome’s productions have taken them to Mexico, Belgium, France and the United States.
